Okuma User Created an App to Simplify Operator Processes
Video shows how an Okuma user created an app to simplify processes for their operators. Okuma customer, Moser Engineering, had operators without a lot of CNC machining experience, and they needed to find a way to make the user process on their machine tools as easy as possible. The video shows how Okuma distributor Gosiger went into the control and created a GUI interface so the Moser operators don’t even see the OSP controls, or have to call up any programs at all. The app also provides safeguards so the operators can’t crash the machine tool.
The purpose of the video is to demonstrate how an open architecture control enables users to customize solutions that fit their unique needs and applications. This is the first in a series of videos that show how a CNC control can be used to innovate and drive business growth in machine shops.
The Okuma GENOS M560-V CNC vertical machining center can perform heavy cuts on a variety of materials, from aluminum to steel to titanium. This demonstration uses Hi-Cut Pro to achieve a smooth finish, uses three tooling changes, ranging from roughing to finishing at speeds up to 12,000 rpm.
The M08SY allows you to perform highly complex machining, such as turning, drilling, boring, cross-drilling and milling. Both the main and back spindles are equipped with state of the art integral servo motor spindles which minimize vibration and provide superior responsiveness for heavy duty cutting and fine finishing of work pieces. The Y-axis control enables diverse, off-center machining of complicated parts, plus incorporating the back spindle eliminates the need for secondary operations.
CMS’ Poseidon vertical machining center is shown performing the roughing and finishing operations on the substrate of a boat deck in EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) foam with a special cutting tool. The tool easily cuts the foam, has a hollow center and is connected to a vacuum system for dust extraction. The Poseidon vertical machining center moves quickly and smoothly through the work without creating mounds of dust that need to cleaned up later.
The MIKRON HSM LP series leads precision chip removal into a new era. Precise adherence to the specified tool path even under high feed rates ultimately determines the surface quality of concave and convex surfaces. For many customers, it is the milling texture — or, to be more exact, the lack of it — on the workpiece that is one of the most important performance characteristics of a MIKRON machine.
