Hartwig, Okuma and Davis Applied Technology College (DATC) to form partnership

Hartwig, Okuma, and DATC have agreed to a formal contract and commitment where six high technology machines will be consigned to the Northern Utah college.  With a state-of-the-art working showroom and training center, Okuma and Hartwig will be able to provide DATC with a 21st century working showroom of CNC lathes, vertical machining centers, multi-tasking machines, and a horizontal machining center.

The equipment and facility will be used for two primary objectives.  First, the machines and training rooms will be used to support the local manufacturing companies in Utah.  Hartwig will have sales, engineering support,  and service located at the facility to showcase products to enhance local customers, technology and manufacturing, while hosting additional training and information seminars at the facility, providing further benefit to the manufacturers in our family.  The Second objective, is to provide students with hands-on training on state-of-the-art equipment for the development of future CNC machinists, programmers, and quality control and inspection specialists.

DATC curriculum provides students with a hands-on, self-paced learning experience that prepares them for employment.  Nationally accredited through the Council on Occupational Education, DATC courses emphasize the skills required on the job and provide this training with instructors who have extensive industry experience.  Students are required to complete 1140 hours of course work in order to receive their Machine Tool Technology degree.

Although machines and training are already ongoing, the Okuma Institute of Technology at Davis Applied Technology Institute will formally open on January 12.  Grand Opening activities will take place January 12-14, 2010.
