History of Hartwig, Inc.
Founded in 1960, Paul Hartwig established Hartwig as a machine tool company based upon the ideals of Honesty, Integrity and Respect.
Things have changed quite a bit over the past 55 years. What started as a small, family-owned St. Louis company with three employees working in a 2,000 ft2 shop, has grown into an award-winning organization with 170+ employees in nine state-of-the-art offices and technology showrooms covering 14 states.
Even with the growth, some things haven’t changed. The values Paul instilled back then remain with the company today – to provide a product and service we can be proud of, giving the customer a little more than they expected, all while keeping a focus on employee satisfaction.
Paul’s legacy and tradition of customer service and workmanship continued into the second and third generation. Gary Hartwig, Paul’s son, joined the family business in 1975 and is credited with expanding the company into a successful sales and service organization across the Midwest, Southwest and Mountain regions.
Hartwig’s success can be attributed to visionary leadership and as well as the company’s reputation for high-quality machine tools, customer service second-to-none and for building lasting relationships with customers, suppliers and employees.
Now led by the third generation, with Geoff Hartwig at the helm and Greg Hartwig leading business development, these ideals combined with the solid foundation of Paul’s pillars still exist – Fairness, After-Sales Support and Hard Work.
